Get Rich. Be a Blogger.
August 1st, 2011

Last week my wife's blog adventuresofasupermom.com received its very first paid advertisement. Sony Pictures wanted to place a tiny square ad in the top right to promote the release of Soul Surfer on Blu-Ray and DVD. They were willing to pay a whopping $40 per month. Immediately, as any good creative would, I wondered where we would spend the money. I am always looking for ways to promote her blog, so I figured we would just use the money to buy spots on other blogs. Hey, if it works for Sony, why not us?

In all of my research I was blown away by the amount of money some blogs can make in advertising revenues. This really can be some people's full-time job. I figured blogging was for the hobbyist, like myself, who is vain enough to think people might care about what I have to say.

One of my favorite bloggers is Michael Hyatt. He is clever, simple, and covers topics that 98% of the time interest me. He is my hero. If you do not read his blog daily, stop wasting your time here and go to michaelhyatt.com first. That being said, I was curious to see how much money a successful blog like his might make. I was also hoping that I might be able to afford advertising for my wife's site, however, his smallest ad location was quite a bit more than my $40 budget. Hopefully the graphic below will fascinate you as much as it did me.

It is now time to stop thinking about it.

About

imageWell, I'm a Husband, Dad, Small Business owner, and I have a noticeably crooked nose. In the past year I have grown 2 inches as well as moved up from a size 10 shoe to a 12.5. It is just a reminder that God does hear our prayers. I'll be the first to let you know when I get my first dunk with a regulation size ball. I hope you enjoy my rants on technology, culture, creative, and the church, and do remember, be inspired.
