Change Sucks
August 31st, 2011

That's right. Mr. Positive Pat himself said it, change sucks.

For those of you who know me, you are probably in shock that I would say such a thing. It is contrary to my nature, my actions, and everything I believe in. I typically sit on the edge of my seat waiting for the next big thing. I am a dreamer and have the tendency to live for what is next, rather than living in the moment. Even as a 10 year old I would rearrange my bedroom every 2 weeks to keep things interesting.  I have sat in many boardrooms meeting with clients challenging them to mix things up and move forward. My belief was that no one wants to change, but without it we only digress. Recently however, I have been faced with extreme change, not only to myself, but to those all around me. The changes are all good, and with my Positive Pat hat on they all seem like ordained moves of God. The problem is that change really does suck.

The beauty of this current season of change is that God has opened my eyes to not only what the impact will mean for me, but what it means to all of those around me.  It really is like a giant chess match. Some people are moving on to new things, some are leaving old things behind, some people were happy with where they are/were.  As cheesy as it might seem, It's like God is painting a living breathing mosaic.  I can see the beautiful picture, but I can also see the hurting, the scared, and the confused. The hardest part about change isn't where God is taking us, or even what he is moving us out of, it is navigating through the people around us.  People are in all different stages of the process.  God is continually working out our salvation day by day.  We might scared helpless for what is next, while our best friend might be on cloud nine for what God is about to do.  Change is ultimately God pruning us so that we might bear more fruit, and yes he does even prune fruit bearing limbs.  What is God walking you through? Are people making the process harder?

Ask God for the mosaic view.

About

imageWell, I'm a Husband, Dad, Small Business owner, and I have a noticeably crooked nose. In the past year I have grown 2 inches as well as moved up from a size 10 shoe to a 12.5. It is just a reminder that God does hear our prayers. I'll be the first to let you know when I get my first dunk with a regulation size ball. I hope you enjoy my rants on technology, culture, creative, and the church, and do remember, be inspired.
